    Default Shifter Locked in Park

Has anyone had their shifter not want to move out of Park? Possible at the same time the ASV indicator lit up, I am not sure if they are related. I forced it out of park and now just leave it in neutral and use the park brake - not a good idea for long. This is a 2003 model 8 passenger van.

Don't forget the emergency release button just above the shifter.

Thanks for the note on the release of the shifter. I read that both problems I am having could be related to low system voltage. My battery reads good and the voltage is good while charging (engine running). How could I have low voltage somewhere in my controls or sensors causing the actions described in first posting??

    Default Update

Just in case some mechanics are reading...I found the brake light fuse blown, unhooked the brake switch, replaced the fuse, replaced the three wire plug into the brake switch and the shifter is unlocked. If I try to plug in the 2 wire plug into the brake switch it blows the fuse.

Must be a short in the two wire plug also shorting the ASV system. That plug is supposed to house the brake return wire, which must be shorting.

Any ideas, if not, off to the mechanic soon, who has already helped some over the phone.

    Lightbulb My answer

My problem turned out to be a burned out tail light bulb, the one above the rear doors. It is actually a brake light I think but I never noticed it being there. Replaced the bulb and all the problems went away, what a cheap fix for what seemed worse. Sorry for the late reply, I have been away from the forum.
