problem with my 2007 dodge sprinter fuel delivery system
I have had a quirk with my 2007 sprinter that has been their since i bought it new a little over a year ago.
i have had it in to the dealer and will not revisit that disaster area again.
the problem goes like this.
1. it never happens when it first starts up-- it always takes about a half an hour running time before the problem will occur.
2. the problem is -- when ive been going along for sometime and the driving conditions cause me to need to slow down for a moment then try to speed up to speed again -- sometimes the engine will not respond to the demand for more fuel. the engine sounds like it is trying suck more air than fuel and will only pick up speed if i am on level ground or down hill and even in these conditions it will only pick up speed slowly( like it has no power) .
3. once this occurs -- if i come to a stop and try to take out from a stop the transmission will shift through the gears long before the the rpm are even close to the proper level of rpm.
4. once this occurs -- it will stay this way until i pull over and stop and put it in park and turn off the engine and then restart it.
5. once this occurs during the same outing -- then it is highly likely that it will do it again if i have to change speeds abruptly at any speed or in any gear and again i have to pull over and restart the engine.
6. I have tried numerous was to try and get the engine to go back to normal operation but the only way that works is by turning off the key and turning it back on.
7. the engine light dose come on sometimes but it is never in cynic with the problem.
this is my story and iam sticking to it.
can anyone suggest a possible solution???
thanks
mark

C4??

When the engine light comes on do you get any codes stored??
It sorta sounds like the Turbo Resonator leak problem, but I thought that they got rid of it on the NCV3's. Those usually fail and stay failed.

You need a code scanner that connects to the OBDII port. Your Sprinter should be under warranty so I recommend a trip to the dealer, but you can also get them read at auto supply stores like Auto Zone or NAPA.

At first i was going to say turbo resonator but then I read where he said it doesn't do it all the time....
The shutting it down and restarting is what we do when the resonator goes out....I think the act of doing a restart must reset a sensor....since the ECM is not putting you into limp mode it must be a "soft" error. Maybe a sensor for the fuel delivery system....Good advice;;;AutoZone or Napa will scan for codes for FREE...and you can go from there...

please let me know if you find your problem?
I have almost the same thing happening
08 170 cargo diesel
Full tank no problem but about 1/2 more or less than it will not shift ( have to manual shift) and i have
found out that engine will only go to 2800 rpms, will not reach rev limiter.
No error codes, no check engine light.
Dealer is unable to find problem, just 2000 miles before warranty runs out.

Some of these problems may (MAY!) be indicative of EGR system fouling.
Other Sprinter owners have reported that when similar symptoms appear, there are no diagnostic trouble codes presented.
In speaking with a Dodge technician in MA - as well as a few owners and mechanics - inspecting the EGR valve and cooler for excessive fouling is a good idea when you get strange symptoms as mentioned above.
If fouled components are discovered, do what you can to get replacement parts under the terms of the Emissions Warranty.
Also, verify you had the H44 recall work done. This will extend the cleaning cycle of the EGR valve after engine shutdown, knocking off spare soot which should get blown into the DPF and reduced to ash at the next DPF passive regeneration cycle.
