Hi everyone,
My name is Jay and I'm new to the site. I have a 2002 Freightliner Sprinter 2500 that I bought used late last year with 100k on it. I'm not all that knowledgeable about them so that why I'm hoping to pick your brains for some help. I have a big problem. The van started to loose power intermittenly as I would be driving and I would have to goose the gas to get it to come back. Took it to the dealer and it didn't do it for them of course and they said they could find nothing wrong and it was safe to drive on a long trip loaded. 30 miles later on the way out of town I had a huge cloud of smoke behind me. Pulled over and there was oil everywhere and a small fire under the hood when I opened it. The fire was oil on the exhaust and went out before I could get the extinguisher. Towed it to the dealer and they are saying that it is blowby off the top of the engine out of the releif and dipstick and the engine is not running right and needs to be replaced with the turbo at $19,000. They can try to cut me a break and get it down to $15,200 for a rebuilt. This all sounds terrible and alittle fishy. They said that they didn't miss anything in the first diagnosis and that this couldn't be predicted but they really didn't give me a cause for what happened. I don't have the money for this and I also don't want to put a new engine in and have it happen again. PLEASE HELP AND THANKS FOR YOUR TIME!!!!!! Regards, Jay
