I've spoken to other tradesmen with Chevy vans and they are getting half what the Sprinter gets. I'm not happy about the smell of the diesel exhaust though.
Carpenter.. "the dealer promised"? Come on!! If you are smart enough to buy a Sprinter, surely you don't believe some sleaze-bag dealer? You want 28? Get on a nice flat highway (no hills) and set the cruise at 48 mpg for the tank...you may even do better!

As for the smell, do you have any Bio diesel available in your area?

I bought my van in 4-04 and get about 21-23 with my GVW being about 6500 LBS. I drive 65ish on the highway and try not to do alot of idling.
This winter i've used the booster heater while running to help warm the van up quicker and it works great it justs uses a little more fuel.

I'm getting 27 empty on the hw and between 23 and 25 loaded. Pulled a trailer once and got 22. I average about 75mph. Hell of a lot better than I got with my Dodge Ram!

    Default 2006 118" Passenger Sprinter

My 06 gets between 20-23 most of the time.
    All highway gets 26+.
Mileage seems better with B20. (Certainly runs much better.)
    Fuel quality varies considerably.
The lower the cetane number, the worse the mileage. (So it seems.)
I find Shell works the best.
    I'm in the USA.

I'm running a 208d swb p reg, and at the moment I'm only getting 25 mpg doing between 60 and 65 mph - previously I reckon I had about 30mpg and for whatever reason its drinking diesel

what are you getting out of it?

I have a 2007 2500 Sprinter... I have been getting 24-26 mpg, no problem. The key is during the first 1,000 miles or so, drive very aggressively, accelerate rapidly and tow as much weight as possible... This allows the engine to be broken in at a much faster rate. Make sure you "floor it" as you take off from the stop lights... again, 25 mpg no problem.
