Gas vs Diesel

I am days away from taking delivery of a '07 144 with a high roof. The unit is gas powered. My local Dodge shop, the only authorized Sprinter dealer in Western North Carolina, had no diesel units available. Before I sign my life away for the next five years, can anyone tell me is there is or not an advantage of gas over diesel. I will not be pulling or hauling anything heavy, I will convert the vehicle into a traveling hotel room for use during visits to family and friends scattered around the country. Thanks for the reply Cruiser, after doing some math on the mileage http://www.mysprintervan.com/modules...gifdifferences between the two engines I am going to opt for the diesel. The dealer will not be happy when I call him since he had no diesels on the lot.

We're in the market for a big van and are trying to decide whether to buy a Sprinter or not. I'm concerned about the differences in performance, maintenance, and operating costs for the gas vs. diesel. Frankly the links below don't contain enough useful info to help me decide.

Any ideas where else to look?

With the price of gas over here in the UK I'd be tempted to go for diesel!
