    Default turning off the headlights?

Has anyone figured out if there is a way to turn off the headlights while the engine is running? My 06 Sprinter is rigged out as a camper and I would like to idle the engine now and then for heat in winter, A/C in summer and to charge the secondary battery. But other campers do not appreciate bright lights on all the time. Manual says nothing. Thanks

Are you talking about daytime lights?
If yes, then there is a dedicated fuse for daytime lights (ones that come on when you start the car no matter what and if I am not mistaking there are two of them one for tail lights and one for headlights), pull them out, you will still be able to turn the lights on manually.

If you can get a pic of where they are I will be the "guinea pig" for the idea (or better yet I will check the owners book for the location of the fuse and try it out and report back to you guys (and/or gals)

I will get you the pics tomorrow. Those fuses were either under the driver seat fuse box or under steering column. Don’t remember exactly it’s been long time since I pulled mine out

I'm the guy running the twin thread, so let's merge...

For the record my Sprinter is an '08. Are you guys both referring to the newer model?

I did start in the owner's manual before asking the question here. There are directions for disabling the constant on lights IF you have the optional steering wheels buttons but no mention of opting out if you have standard controls. I really was expecting it to be something that could be accessed by scrolling through the menu button?

I looked through the fuse legends in the manual and found no reference that I recognized. Based on the confidence you gave me yesterday that there was a seperate fuse under the seat, I gave it a whirl. After taking my best guess and pulling #7 I started the truck with no change. Not wanting to to go through too many start/stop cycles, I replaced #7 and began removing/reinstalling one fuse at a time. The headlights and front running lights never turned off. I didn't walk around to check the rear.

    I'll check back tomorrow...TIA

On the earlier (T1N) versions you can disable the DRL headlights by removing fuse #14 (10 amp) under the driver seat. I don't know if this works on the 2007 and up NCV3 models.

Well, after a little more research it appears that it is not as simple as pulling a fuse in the newer models.

It is a simple answer but requires a dealer visit. It can be reprogrammed using the factory scan tool.

Happy Camper, in the meantime you can turn off the headlights by turing ON the parking/running lights. Just remember to turn them off again when you turn off the motor.
