Is the Sprinter owners manual on-line anywhere. Was curious if I should get this option when I order my van.

    Default High Idle Function

I recently purchased a 2005 Sprinter with High Idle Function. With engine running, gear shift in Park and emergency brake on: Push the high idle switch and the engine revs up to 2000 RPM and holds there. This is intended for power take-off accessories.

I was under the impression that this was to resolve the carbon deposit problems from long-term idling. Every expedite driver that I've talked to had to replace the EGR valve at least once because of idling for long times. I didn't get this option with my 2005. For extra power makes sense also because they will test the alternator output while idling at 2000 rpm. Will this option take can of both the power drain and EGR problems? Will a throttle stick do the same thing?

Hello - regards the high idle function:
This option will maintain the constant engine speed of 2,000 rpm
for the purpose of running power take-off.
an electrinic controller for diesel engines that maintains constant engine speed while a power take-off is running.
this is required for running add-on equipment such as truck loader.
Inportant note: this is NOT suitable for operationg generators !
