I want to tow a 7,000 lb dual axle trailer, but I know the Sprinter towing capacity was downgraded from 7,000 lbs to 5,000 lbs, why is that? When towing, the only thing in the vehicle itself will be 7 people and some luggage, it won't be "loaded to the gills" with cargo. And with the dual axel, the hitch weight should not be an issue. So if do tow the 7,000 lbs, what is the risk, am I going to ruin the engine? Something else? Also, if I do pull 7,000 lbs should I get the lower gear ratio option? If so, how much will it affect fuel economy?
