Default Some NUBie Sprinter Warranty Questions and Concerns

    Hi All,

I am seriously considering purchasing a used 2007 or 2008 sprinter 2500 Diesel High Top, and I have to tell you that I am a little worried about it. I intend to use the sprinter to haul my race motorcycles and gear to track events and occasionally for around town errand running. The sprinter would replace my 2004 Ford F150 (absolutely reliable and super cheap to own and maintain) with 62,000 miles. Thats right 62,000 miles in almost 6 yrs of ownership~not too many miles. The sprinter would probably get the same amount of use and miles over time. I am looking to purchase a sprinter with 65k miles or less. I want the sprinter b/c it can comfortably hold 2 bikes and gear- a payload around 1200lbs and keep everything in a locked private box away from peering eyes. Also the bikes are easier to load into the van and secure with tie downs. Diesel fuel is an added bonus as the F150 gets about 19 mpg unloaded on the highway and I don't even want to talk about around town fuel economy---good thing it has a 37 gallon tank.

    My questions are:
1)I know that people without trouble rarely post and so the majority of posters are people that have big issues with their sprinters, still the tranny and engine failures are scary. Are the 07 and on sprinters more reliable? My sprinter will probably not see 150k miles for at least 8 or 10 yrs.

2)With the 07-on sprinters will i see miles per gallon figures in the mid to high twenties? At 75 mph? Can this thing even cruise comfortably above 70 mph???

3)What factory warranty was offered on these sprinters (07-2008 )?

4)Has anyone purchased an aftermarket extended warranty---seems like a great idea on these vans. If so how much and from whom?

Thanks in advance for all of your help!!

I have a 2004 loaded high roof model with 78,00 miles, purchased new. No matter what I do I cannot get over 18 miles per gallon. Talked with dealer and factory rep. No explaination. I have had four different deisel trucks and have never gotten the mileage you hear about. The Sprinter is a great design but it is hard to find good service. I would never buy another one.

The company i work for has a 08 dodge sprinter van. What we have seen is very poor service with the vans. Not all dealerships will service the vans because they lack the techs to look at them. If you choose do purchase a van make sure you are able to obtain a warrenty with it. These vans are known for transmission sensors going out. We have had ours in there countless time for that problem as well as leaks in the A/C system in the van the one in the rear of the veichcle. Which in turned the interrior diffrent colors because of the leak.
Overall the van is roomie and offers alot of space to move around and to hide items from woundering eyes. On the road the van does get pushed around alot from wind and lets say semi trucks passing you by on the road. 4x4 is the other thing that this van lacks which would be nice to have as an option.
But why bother with something if you dont or cant find people with the right attitudes and obligation to fix something under warrenty.
I personaly would look some place else in my own opinion. For what my company uses the van for we need it and we are stuck with it and its problems.....
    I hope this helped
