    Default Fuel injection pump replacement

    On my way to the dealership this morning my 2004 sprinter with 136,000 miles on it just quit running. Itb had a light on the dash which indicated the fuel system may have air in it. Well the dealer called back with the news 6,500.00 to repair they want to replace both pumps the rail the injectors and clean and flush the system. I'm a bodyman by trade and I have done alot of mechanical work. How much of this needs to be replaced can i save money by removing and cleaning and flushing these out? I just can not justify spending thousands on this vehicle at this point?

    where did you take this to, did you put gasoline in it?, with that kind of mileage you may have an injtector leaking and causing the high pressure fuel system to go low, also i don't think there is a light for "air in the fuel" there is a light for water in the fuel, and that would come on if you don't change te fuel filter regularly, mercedes recommends every 10k miles on this model

    Default High Pressure pump problems!

    The goodnews, it did not need any of the extra components other then the high pressure pump. I bought a used one off of e-bay for 585.00 from Quality Sprinter parts out of Texas, I highly recomend them. The truck started right up but still did not run right. I found I also had a underboost error on the turbo. I guess it was the waste gate acuator and I had to buy a rebuilt turbo, and that cured my problem. I was able to go to the local Autozone parts store to get the errors read and erased for no charge upon completion. The dealers are crazy they had no idea of what the van all needed and never even told me about the underboost error, so shame on them. I'm confident there is not any problems I can not solve on this vehicle and amazed at really how simple and easy it is to work on.

    I have never seen the turbo "go bad" on a sprinter, but I have seen the wastegate actuator rod clip fall off and cause that fault. Most of the time when you get a charge pressure fault there is a boost leak not turbo failure. If you actually fixed your problem with replacing the turbo I would say that was a lucky shot in the dark.

    Default Turbo waste gate acuator

    Well what I have been told is yes it was the wastegate acuator, the rod was connected. I was also told you can not buy just the acuator? I was told you had to either buy a used turbo or rebuilt? Obviously I'm new to the service end of my sprinter. Since replacing it it has run perfectly I knew the turbo was working fine but I needed to get it up and running for my business so this was the route I choose.

    Thanks, for all your input I plan on running this van for along time to come and the more I can learn about it the better off I am.
