    Question 2005 boost issue

    hi guys,

i am working on a 2005 dodge sprinter, and it came in with a po299 low boost code. i checked the intercooler connections, and all looked good. i reset the code, and then road tested. initially i had boost, lots of power. the boost dropped, and i had no power. the dtc did not reset though. i pulled over, shut it off, then restarted, and again had boost. so... after driving even a small distance the boost goes out. restart the vehicle and you have boost. it looks like it has a computer controlled wastegate. i am leaning towards replacing this but really dont want to "throw parts at it", any help guys?

    thanks,
    new member,

    david

Common problem check the turbo resonator, they have been know to leak around the seams, it is a hard plastic part.

In addition to the Turbo Resonator problem, it is very common for the hoses to the intercooler to split. You should look them over very carefully. The intercoolers will occasionally crack also.
Most likely the loss of boost is caused by the CEL set when a boost pressure problem is detected.

    hi guys,

and thanks for the fast response. i just looked at the resonator, and see no obvious signs of failure. is it possible that when the boost drops it is because the plastic seam opens up, and then when i restart the vehicle the seams are closed?

so far the dtc has not recurred, even when i lose boost. granted, i have only been around the block, and on the freeway for a very short stint.

but, due to this i am thinking that it is not the ecu shutting off boost.

    further thoughts?

    thanks,
    david

Spray some bubble soap on the resonator.

    hi guys,

i got under the rig, and on close inspection the resonator has oil trace that has blown onto the lower rad hose, and the small bypass hose directly across from seam/ common failure point on the resonator. being as there is no other source for oil in that specific area... i am confidently getting a resonator from dodge monday.

i really appreciate the help, and am pretty sure that if left to my own devices i would have called it as a faulty vacuum transducer.

thanks again, and after i make my repair i will post.

    Default repair completed

    thanks again guys.

i installed the new resonator, reset the dtc, and it works great.

when i got the old part out, sure as heck, right there at the inside seam was a split.

    have a great one,

    Question Nai 08 dodge sprinter

I myself experiences low boost or lost of power and as soon as I restart the vehicle it would have boost (power) again. About how much the dealer sells a resonator for?
