2004 Sprinter Won't Let Me Start Engine

I have a 2004 Sprinter. Was working fine, stopped for fuel. Went to leave and turn the key.. the dash lights all come on, glow plugs, battery .. etc.. and the auxiliary fan comes on screaming fast. None of the lights go out and of course won't let me start the damn thing. Anyone else ever have this issue? Thanks in advance for any help.

How old is the battery? These electronic wonders will not start if the volts start getting on the low side. Did you try and wiggle the shifter?

The battery was the first thing I changed so it's brand new. I did indeed try wiggling the shifter.

Check that the chip has not fallen out of the ingition key. The exact same thing happened to one of our vans. Dash all lights up as ususl but the chip had fallen out onto the ground. We found it - pushed it back in and all fixed.
