    Default Headgasket going or not?

My Mercedes Sprinter 1995 208D (no turbo) van collects a small amount of engine oil in the radiator expansion tank. This oil is always floating on top, and the coolant remains clear.
The oil on the dip stick, and the oil and workings inside the cylinder head are all clear, no gunge or white stuff.
Is this the early signs of the head gasket going, or something else, like a pipe leaking oil into the coolant system somewhere?
    Any advice greatly received.

    hi
i've got a 1996 208D aswell, i'm not sure about your problem sorry. my problem i've got is when my fuel guage reads less than a 1/4 left in tank but the lights not on. is when i go round a corner the van wll cut out about 30 sec later.. am i right in thinking it is running low on fuel and i has got air in the system or would it be somethng else.......but when i go and fill it up i can only get about £50 in the tank where as normally i would get around £70 in it. so it must have about £20 in fuel when on 1/4 but it still splutters and stops when low but not low as the light is on.....HELP

    cheers
    wayne
