sprinter radio codes ?
Does anyone know how to get the security code for the radios in these things ( sound 10 )? I have called dodge and freight liner but no one seems to be able to tell me how to get the code for the radios. Everyone I have talked to says to bring it into a dealer but that is not an option.
I work for an armored car company that has about 40 sprinters our local fleet. The radios have stopped working in about half of those. The company knows about the problem but as long as the trucks move and stop bullets they don't really care about finding a solution to the radio problem. The company who has our service contract on the trucks keeps knocking out the codes when they do minor repairs and they don't know how to get the codes to make them work again. Spending up to 13 hours a day locked inside one of these things with no radio really sucks. I have searched the net for info and I just cant find any. You guys are my last hope.

I think I can help. A few weeks ago there was a link posted on the Yahoo Sprintervan forum that leads to a file containing the Sprinter radio codes. This is a large file, over 6 MB, in the PDF format. Be sure you have a good internet connection when you attempt to download it. Once you get it you can save a copy on your computer and then you will have it handy. The file contains a listing of the last six digits of the VINs of all Sprinters delivered in the US up to the time the list was created. So, you can scroll through the list to find your VIN or perhaps you can do a search; might be quicker. Once you have the list you should be able to take care of all the Sprinters at your company.
Here is the link:

You sir , are brilliant.
This is exactly what I was looking for. This will help make the work day go by much faster. I am going to keep a copy on my machine and make a disk to keep in the vault at work to make sure we can fix the codes from now on.
Also , I have been trying to find info on how to remove the governor on these things. Most of the sprinters are limited to 75 mph but I know they will do much more than that. One person who is no longer with the company did something to his truck and it now tops out at about 84. I would like to be able to raise the top speed on a couple other trucks as well. Do you know how to remove or adjust the speed limiter ?
THANK YOU !!!!!

Glad I could help. As far as adjusting the speed limiter, it is my understanding that this involves reprogramming the engine control module (ECM) which can be very risky if you don't know exactly what you are doing. There have been several discussions on this topic in the Yahoo Sprintervan forum; the most recent one started with a guy saying he heard he could get it done in Mexico and wanted to know what others thought of this. The first response basically called him a jerk and an idiot for even thinking about running faster than the speed limits and things deteriorated from there into a lot of name calling, etc., and finally resulted in one guy being permanently banned from the forum. Anyway, you could probably go to that forum and search for "speed limiter" or "governor" or "ECM" or whatever and see what you come up with. Personally, I have no interest in the topic myself as I am perfectly happy with the speed I can get with my '04 2500 cargo van.

radio code
My dealer gave me the radio code when I bought the van. He also gave me a couple of stickers for the windows alerting people that I have a code radio. My wife says that it is a bad idea to display that because people can get the codes off of the internet to use the radio. It seems more difficult than that, so is my wife right or wrong?

Well, the sticker is supposed to be a deterrent. When a potential thief sees the sticker they are supposed to think, "Crap, if I steal this radio it won't work because I don't have the code to unlock it." What are the chances some low-life thief will know he can get the code off the internet. And, even if they do, they will have to take the time to copy the VIN because that is what you need to look up the code. Anyway, I don't know why anyone would want to steal the crappy radios they put in Sprinters. I got rid of mine (gave it away) and replaced it with a Sony. It has a removable face plate. When I take that off and hide it they can't even see what kind of radio I have.
