IN MEXICO IN LIMP MODE WITH NO HELP
Am holidaying in Mexico in a brand new Sprinter with less than 3000 miles on it and am in Limp Mode. Dodge has been ZERO help the nearest dealer who might be able to help is a 2000 dollar tow bill away and have been waiting for over 15 days for someone capable of lowboying it there. MANYANA, MANYANA, MANYANA. Which comes and goes evey day.
Is there any way to reset the computer, I am sure there is nothing wrong with it.
I WOULD BURN IT BUT THEN I WOULD HAVE TO PAY THE 30% IMPORT TAX.
Any advice would help.
Thanks Kevin

Stranded in Mexico
Kevin, just a thought for what its worth. From reading this forum it sounds like your Sprinter just might have a "turbo resonator eliminator" failure which is forcing the engine into Limp mode. Refer to a post in the Maintenance portion of this forum by "jriordan" on 12/05/2006 addressing this issue. The replacement part is supposed to be easy to install and just might get you back on the road for minimal bucks compared to your alternatives. With the new part installed the computer will no longer sense a turbo problem and will no longer force you into limp mode...No computer reset required. Maybe the part could be sent to you. You can reach Jim Riordan at riordanco.com/parts catalog or 877-746-7326. I'm not affiliated with Mr. Riordan in any way. I just happened to read his post shortly after reading about your situation and can relate to being up a creek far from home. Good Luck!!..........Tom

Some check engine lights will clear after the fault does not show up for three starts. I had a light and found power was cut, but it cleared after running about 10 trips. Now full power
I think there may be a way to check codes onboard. Otherwise, it takes an OBDII test device to read and to reset. Maybe another Chrysler Dealer woul have their instrument, a special version. I will bet clearing the fault code may get you back running without service possibly.
These vehicles should say what is going on. Not hard with todays electroncis for heavens sake. I am installing a vehicle computer and a OBD system, Navigation, etc.
Good luck Dale

THE AFTER MARKET FIX COULD VOID YOUR WARRANTY IF YOU ARE STILL WITHIN WARRANTY. I SPOKE WITH MY LOCAL SPRINTER DEALER'S MECHANIC YESTERDAY AND MENTIONED THE AFTER MARKET RESONATOR. HE CHECKED WITH TERRITORIAL SPRINTER MANAGER AND WAS TOLD THAT IT WOULD ONLY VOID WARRANTY IF DAMAGE OCCURS AS A RESULT OF THE AFTERMARKET PART. GOOD NEWS THOUGH, HE ALSO TOLD ME THAT SPRINTER KNOWS THERE HAS BEEN A PROBLEM WITH THE RESONATOR COMING APART. SPRITER HAS A NEW RESONATOR THAT IS PUT TOGETHER WITH A NEW ADHESIVE THAT WILL NOT SEPARATE. HE STATED THAT WHEN I BRING MY SPRINTER IN FOR SCHEDULED MAINTENENCE, IF IT SHOWS ANY OIL ON THE OUTSIDE, HE WILL REPLACE UNDER WARRANTY WITH NEW & IMPROVED RESONATOR.

OOOOPS!
Sorry Falcon,
Wasn't paying attention, if I had, I would have noticed that it was Kevin who had the problem, not you.
BTW, I asked the Dodge service dept by me (Houston) about upper cylinder lubricants in our engines because of the ultra low sulfur fuels. This is what they wrote me back with. What do you think?
Mr. Tilotta. I apologize for taking a long time to respond. I had to do some research and I didn't want to lose this e-mail. I was able to enquire with the Dodge Sprinter Engineers. They do not recommend adding any additives or lubricant to the diesel engine. J.D.
