Default 06 Sprinter starts then dies

When starting van, the engine starts, goes up to 500 RPM, then dies. Repeating this, gives the same results. The van has been sitting unused for 3 months. Advice would be appreciated b/f I take it to a dealer.
    Thanks,
    Karl

    Default Possible lift pump problem.

The sprinter has two diesel pumps, a lift pump to draw fuel from the tank and a high pressure pump to provide the fuel at high pressure to the injectors.

Try this, take a fuel can and a length of fuel line from a full can to the inlet on the lift pump.

If the engine runs fine then the problem is a block in the line from the tank.

If the lift pump fails to draw the fuel from the can then the lift pump is on good . not expencive and easy to change. Small rectangle bit on the top front of the engine.

If the lift pump draw the fuel and the problem persists the try this.

Remove all the engine covers, bleed the fuel system by slightly undoing the metal fuel pipe to the back fuel injector. This will allow the trapped air to escape as you crack the engine over.

    Good luck.

I have five sprinter vans, garage bills were crippling me till I learned to do all the repairs myself. the bills you get are a joke.

Got the problem fixed (sort of) Disconnected my mass airflow sensor and the truck runs. So maybe the airflow sensor needs replaced or maybe the ERG valve?
