Hi! After many years of teaming with my husband (Doc Rushing), going from first 18 wheels, then "down" to 10, now he's retiring. I'm not ready to get off the road - besides, I need to keep working for 3 more yrs. for Social Security. So last summer, knowing this was going to happen at the end of the year, I bought a used Sprinter ('05) 2500, LWB, high roof. The former (original) owner had run it at Panther for 5 years, had added tons of good stuff; full sleeper, espar heater, 2000 watt inverter, 2 deep-cycle auxiliary batteries with automatic recharge, and lots more than I can think of right now. I plan to continue expediting, expect to put it on at Landstar Express America, probably in March. (Forget driving in Jan and Feb when I have a choice!) It had 425,000 mi. when I bought it; rather than run around the country hoping against hope that I don't have a catastrophic breakdown, I'm getting a rebuilt motor put in before I start. Wayne Rodd, in Toledo, has found a newly-rebuilt '05 one with 15 (yes!) mi. on the odometer - a rollover on its first test drive. (Talk about an OOPS!!) After that, paint, new tires, plywood floor. (The previous owner just used the wood composite flooring it comes with from the factory; 5 yrs of pallets in and out have left it horribly dug up.)
I'm really excited at this new opportunity - even us old dogs can learn new tricks! I'd welcome any information and advice any experienced folks would care to share. After 15 yrs in expediting, I think I have that part okay, but the Sprinter stuff, and the Landstar stuff, are all new to me. Thanks for having this site! Marda Rushing
