My 2004 Sprinter (260,000 miles) cuts-out or "hiccups" briefly when I accellerate moderately. The engine doesn't die completely, just briefly jerks very hard, like the key is shut off then back on again. It happens in every gear, mostly happens when the engine is fully heated up, and will stop when I let off the accererator, floor the accellerator, or shift to a lower gear. If I let it happen too much, it will finally go into limp mode, and the check engine light may or may not come on. I've changed the fuel filter, cleaned and checked the EGR valve, checked the turbo hoses, inspected the wiring harness at the engine, and added several diesel fuel cleaners, all to no avail. The freightliner dealer found several apparently unrelated codes, but didn't really know what the problem was. They just said that it would likely be an expensive "hunt and peck" operation to track it down. (At least he was honest about it) An independent mechanic says I need a new transmission, but I'm not really convinced, since it can happen in any gear. Anybody heard of this problem, or know what I could try next?
