Default DUal Rear Wheels or not?

I am looking to buy a new sprinter 2500 (144"). to convert into a camper van. What are the pros and Cons of getting a cargo van with dual real wheels? Thanks.

I just joined this FORUM and note that there seems to be very little reply or comments to questions. I just purchased the Winnebago ERA on the Mercedes Sprinter chassis which has dual wheels. The biggest advantage as I understand is the increase in carrying capacity. I also understand that the van is somewhat more stable. Is the extra cost worth it??? Who knows ... mine came that way and I am pleased with it ... so far.

The negatives to having dual wheels are the problem of checking tire pressure on the inner wheel unless you add a "dualie" kit for that purpose.

The main advantage is that you aren't completely immobilized if one of the tires goes down. Because of the wind loading of an RV, having a single flat tire which is the only tire at one point can pose a major roll over hazard.

I agree with "cruiser49" on both counts. It has been a real pain in the butt trying to get someone to show me ... a novice with an RV and dual rear wheels ... how to check and add air to the dual rear wheels. Finally ... after whining and complaining to everyone I could find, including the RV dealer (no help there), and Winnebago (no help there) and finally the Mercedes dealer ... after the second visit they installed value stem extensions on ALL the wheels, including front wheels and dual rears wheels. I can now check with relatively ease.

In addition to the extra carrying capacity I mentioned above and as "cruiser49" mentioned about a possible flat/rollover ... it also seems to add some stability to the RV while on the road.
